This state park is a bit busy for our tastes but if you have young children and are looking for swimable water, easy trails, clean bathhouses and….ummm concession stands then this spot is perfect! About hour from Camp Lejeune it makes for a great day trip with plenty to do.
The swimming beach is safe for all ages and the grassy lawn is used for family movie nights during the summer. The epitome of family friendly is what you’ll find here. Above the lawn and swimming beach is the bathhouse and concession stand area. Whether it’s lunch or ice cream treats to cool off with after your swim, you’ll be happy with how thought through this park is. Paddle boats and canoes can be rented and they also have lifeguards!
If you come for the hiking, the trails are well marked and maintained. We were even surprised to find two geocaches along the trails! The park also supplies fun scavenger hunt pamphlets and ones to help kids identify animal tracks on the trail. Again, the family friendliness of this park is top notch.
While we normally search out a more wild wood experience for our crew I have to say the kids thoroughly enjoyed the Cliffs of the Neuse and all it had to offer!
